Guide to Joining a Microsoft Teams Meeting in a Browser

  • Updated

Preparation: Before your meeting, make sure you have a stable internet connection and a compatible browser. Microsoft Teams meetings can be accessed through most modern browsers, including Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari.

Step 1: Receive the Meeting Invitation

  • You will receive an email or calendar invitation to a Microsoft Teams meeting. This invitation includes a link to join the meeting.

Step 2: Open the Meeting Link

  • Click on the meeting link provided in the invitation. If you're doing this ahead of the meeting time, you might be taken to a waiting screen.

Step 3: Choose Your Access Method

  • Once you click the link, you'll be presented with options to either download the Teams app or join on the web. Select “Join on the web instead.”

Step 4: Grant Permissions

  • Your browser may ask for permission to access your microphone and camera. Allow these permissions so you can participate fully in the meeting.

Step 5: Enter Your Details

  • If prompted, enter your name and choose your audio and video settings. If you’re not speaking immediately, it’s a good idea to mute your microphone and possibly disable your video as you join to minimize disruptions.

Step 6: Join the Meeting

  • Click the “Join now” button to enter the meeting. You might be placed in a virtual lobby until the meeting organizer admits you, especially if you join before the host.

Step 7: Participate in the Meeting

  • Once in the meeting, you can use the toolbar to mute/unmute your microphone, turn your video on/off, share content, and view participants.

Step 8: Leave the Meeting

  • To leave the meeting, click the hang-up button (red phone icon) in the meeting controls.

Tips for a Good meeting Experience:

  • Test Your Setup: Before joining the meeting, especially if it’s your first time using Teams in a browser, test your setup by visiting Microsoft Teams’ test call page. This can be accessed by clicking on your profile picture, choosing 'Settings' > 'Devices' > 'Make a test call'.
  • Use Compatible Browsers: For the best experience, use the latest version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Safari.
  • Close Unused Tabs: For optimal performance, close any unnecessary browser tabs or applications running in the background.

By following these steps, you should be able to access a Microsoft Teams meeting through your browser with ease. Remember, you don't need Microsoft Teams account to join a meeting as a guest through the browser, making it an accessible option for everyone.
